If you wish to live and learn the music of plucking and picking come and join the orchestra, Orquesta de Plectro el Micalet de Llíria at our premises (Calle San Miguel nº 75) Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 hours.  The lessons are free.

 

PLUCK OR PICK
The plectrum is a small triangular piece with equal sides.  It is slim, firm and made of differents materiales.  It is used to play string instruments like a type of mandolin or lute.

A TYPE OF MANDOLIN (BANDURRIA) AND THE LUTE
Bandurria is a type of mandolin.  When we speak of Spanish lutes, we refer to the complete group of the mandolin family, namely, mandolin soprano, mandolin contralto, mandolin tenor, mandolin bass and mandolin contrabass.  Although it is also popularly known in other names, like mandolin lute, little lute, bass lute, etc., reserving the term for this type of mandolin (el término bandurria), exclusively for the soprano instrument .

This type of mandolin existed in the twentieth century.  It became an instrument fundamental to folk music in some Spanish regions.  Furthermore it appears with sufficient frequency  in general in Spanish lyrics, la Zarzuela.
